The Athena SWAN Charter
The Institute of Cancer Research is proud to be a member of the Athena SWAN Charter, a scheme promoting the careers of women in science, engineering, technology, maths and medicine through excellent employment practice in higher education.
We are proud to have held a prestigious Athena SWAN Silver Award for our institution since 2016. This award recognises a significant record of activity and achievement in promoting gender equality and inclusivity, supported by evidence of the impact of Athena SWAN activities – for example, supporting female researchers at key transition points in their careers, and the promotion of female researchers, and researchers from different ethnic backgrounds, into leadership roles.
We carry out robust data collection and analysis to evaluate the impact our work has, and how we are making a difference for staff and students.
The renewal of our Silver Award in 2019 demonstrates our ongoing commitment to embedding a diverse, inclusive workforce, where everyone has equal access to opportunities across all career paths.
Our award submission shows the issues that we have identified, and the action plan we are delivering to make further progress.
