ICR donors give a fantastic £12m for cancer research in 2015

Jennifer Herbert

Donors and supporters of The Institute of Cancer Research, London, contributed £12.3 million in charitable donations over the last year.

This marks an extraordinary level of generosity and commitment on the part of all those who have made a gift, raised funds for us or remembered the ICR in their will.

Details of the donations were published in the ICR's Annual Report and Financial Statements 2015, which covers the financial year ending July 2015.

By running a marathon or taking on a challenge, donating monthly by Direct Debit, funding a PhD student or supporting us in another way, all of our supporters are helping to make a real difference to the lives of cancer patients.

Donations this year have helped us to continue to train the cancer research leaders of the future. With your support we have also opened our state-of-the-art Centre for Cancer Imaging. Here our scientists will use the latest and most sophisticated imaging techniques to speed up the development of the next generation of cancer drugs.

We also developed a blood test for breast cancer that predicts which patients may relapse, and tested a new viral immunotherapy treatment giving hope for patients with advanced melanoma.

There are of course many other scientific achievements made this year – too many to mention here – some of which we are only able to progress thanks to the support of our donors and supporters.

Lara Jukes, Director of Development at the ICR, said: “I am extremely grateful to all of our donors and supporters for their generosity and fantastic dedication to the ICR. I know that many of you have very personal reasons for supporting us, and others of you are simply fascinated by the discoveries that our scientists make. However, the fact that we are able to make such discoveries is in no small part thanks to all of you.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported the ICR over the last year. Together, we are making the discoveries that defeat cancer.”
